Training

Douglassville Pet Center has two canine behaviorists who specialize in helping you teach your pet the necessary skills they need to live an obedient life in your home. Introducing a dog into your home can be a huge adjustment and properly training your pet will provide you with a lifetime of enjoyment. If proper training is skipped, it can lead to a life of frustration and resentment for your dog due to behaviors such as house soiling, separation anxiety, destructiveness, aggression, dominance, etc. We want the relationship between you and your dog to be stress free and easy. Let us help you achieve this lifestyle with the following canine behavior classes.

Puppy Classes

These six week classes help your young pet learn important commands as well as how to properly interact with other dogs. Puppy classes are valuable in providing tips to house break your pet and learning important commands such as come, sit, lie down, drop, as well as others.
In general, puppies can start puppy socialization and training classes as early as 9 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines prior to the first class and a first deworming. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class.
The first four months of a puppy’s life is the best opportunity to introduce it to new people, animals, and experiences. Puppy school at Douglassville Pet Center provides you with a safe and structured environment to provide this socialization. If this four-month socialization window is skipped, it can lead to a life of behavioral problems.

"Behavioral problems are the greatest threat to the owner-dog bond. In fact, behavioral problems are the number one cause of relinquishment to shelters [which can lead to shelter euthanasia]. Behavioral issues, not infectious diseases, are the number one cause of death for dogs under
three years of age."
–American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior

Manners Classes

Manners classes further reinforce proper canine behavior and introduce more advanced commands to your maturing dog. Manners classes are also helpful for adult dogs that did not participate in puppy behavior class. We don’t subscribe to the theory that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Let us show you how it’s done. One on One Behavior Consultations: If you are experiencing a specific problem with your pet (i.e. separation anxiety, fear, barking, not listening to you, etc.) we provide one on one behavioral consultations to help you deal with these problems. These one on one sessions will provide you with a structured approach to dealing with your pet’s unwanted behavior.
